- The program will feature a retrospective celebrating the centenary of embroidery house Lesage and foster cross-cultural dialogue between French and Chinese craftsmanship
Following previous chapters in Dakar and Tokyo, Chanel‘s Le19M continues its global expansion with an upcoming exhibition at Shanghai’s Museum of Art Pudong. Established in 2021 as a hub for eleven Maisons d’art and over 700 artisans, the Le19M initiative aims to highlight the intricate techniques that power the luxury brand’s collections. Visitors will be invited to explore specialized skills spanning pleating, featherwork, and embroidery, engaging directly with the processes through hands-on workshops and interactive public programming.
At the core of the immersive experience is a retrospective honoring the 100-year anniversary of the storied embroidery house Lesage, tracing its evolution and enduring role within Chanel’s creative universe. The Shanghai edition has been curated through a collaboration of Chinese and French creative voices, guided by an editorial committee that includes Gong Yan, Lin Tianmiao, Zhang Lei, and Christelle Kocher. Rather than presenting craftsmanship as static heritage, the exhibition frames it as a living dialogue, allowing for a dynamic exchange between traditional European savoir-faire and contemporary local practices.
