Audio brand km5 announced the upcoming release of its Sp1 speaker and Mp1 mixer, delivering a hardware expansion designed to directly complement its Cp1 CD player. This release expands km5’s minimalist audio ecosystem, providing a display-friendly setup that fundamentally encourages tactile interaction with music through manual mixing and physical equalization. Both the Sp1 speaker and Mp1 mixer borrow the flat, frame-like format of km5’s Cp1 CD player to maintain a cohesive design language. Available in stark black or white finishes, the Sp1 speaker and Mp1 mixer share the exact same size dimensions, creating a uniformed aesthetic when placed side by side.
The Sp1 speaker features a sleek perforated grille on its front surface. A dot-matrix display is cleverly hidden beneath its grille to show time and playback information without breaking the visual lines of the device. The top edge of the Sp1 speaker houses physical buttons and a retractable metal antenna, signaling its broader utility. Beyond standard playback, the Sp1 speaker functions as an FM radio and allows users to record radio programs. Internally, the Sp1 speaker is equipped with two 1.77-inch full-range drivers and two passive radiators. Audio playback on the Sp1 speaker is supported via Bluetooth and microSD. For a wider soundstage, two Sp1 units can be paired together to provide stereo playback. Built for portability, both the Sp1 and Mp1 operate on built-in batteries, with the Sp1 speaker boasting an estimated battery life of approximately 12 hours.
The Mp1 mixer shifts the design focus toward performance, filling its front surface area entirely with knobs and sliders. It features two channels with separate level sliders and a crossfader for blending sources. Users can dial in the sound using three-band EQ controls for adjusting bass, midrange and treble, as well as additional sound filters. Adding to the DJ-style functionality, loop buttons on the Mp1 mixer allow users to repeat sections of a track. Two Bluetooth inputs receive music from external sources, such as a smartphone or the Cp1 CD player. As a central hub, the Mp1 can wirelessly send combined audio to a compatible speaker and also offers line inputs and outputs for wired connections. Battery life for the Mp1 mixer reaches an estimated six hours.
Optional wall-mount accessories maximize spatial versatility by allowing the devices to be mounted on vertical surfaces. By combining wall-mounting capabilities with physical mixing controls, the system bridges decorative interior design and tactile audio playback. Users can operate the mixer while it is mounted on the wall, turning architectural space into a functional setup. Preorders for the Sp1 and Mp1 are scheduled to open on November 16, 2026. Shipments are expected to begin in February 2027 or later, while official pricing for the Sp1 speaker and Mp1 mixer currently remains unconfirmed.
