Private Policy Ponders a Seemingly Simple Sentiment for Spring/Summer 2026: "Can We Be Friends?"

As the world’s first Dual-Form Home Intelligent Agent – a robot named BAOBAO – rolled down the runway, the imprint encouraged us to ask ourselves: can humanity and technology emotionally connect?

A Private Policy New York Fashion Week runway might be the only place where you’ll find a front-row Kodak Black and the world’s first Dual-Form Home Intelligent Agent, able to transition in real-time between “humanoid” and “quadruped” form. It’s just this juxtaposition – the continued convergence of humanity and technology – that fuels the New York City imprint’s Spring/Summer 2026 showcase.

Specifically, it’s the “tension” between the two entities that Private Policy leans into for its latest seasonal collection, entitled “Can We Be Friends?,” challenging us to look inward during today’s age in which artificial intelligence continues to ascend in influence and power.

“Can We Be Friends?” kicks off with what we know best, elevated Americana, presenting an air of timelessness across denim, workwear, and preppy pieces. Protective weaves and silicone textures make way for pulled piqué and reworked polos, as well as sheer outerwear and structured, tailored jacketing. It’s a sartorial lane that Private Policy calls “Future-Tech Americana.”

About halfway through the runway – which isn’t a traditional one, with models taking jagged paths across a spacious showroom – enter BAOBAO—aforementioned Dual-Form Home Intelligent Agent. Equipped with motion and manipulation that surpasses human ability, BAOBAO prompts us to ask ourselves: “Can a machine carry emotion? Can it offer friendship?”

As indicated in the show notes, however, Private Policy isn’t looking to answer the question. Merely to pose it.

The notes continue: “If intelligence can be programmed to understand us, is it still only machinery? If friendship stretches to include what we once called artificial, does it not also stretch the very meaning of being human?”

Can Black and BAOBAO be friends? Take a closer look at the runway images in the gallery above and make the call for yourself.
