- The book, written by Nicholas Foulkes, chronicles the watch’s history from its 1945 debut
- The hardcover is available for pre-order now
After releasing a 252-page book on the Submariner watch, Rolex reunites with Wallpaper* to shine a spotlight on another horological icon: the Oyster Perpetual Datejust. Aptly titled Oyster Perpetual Datejust – A Watch that Made History, this 224-page volume is the first-ever authorized history of the model that defined Rolex’s signature date window at 3 o’clock.
Veteran horology historian Nicholas Foulkes once again guides readers through a vivid narrative of the Datejust’s 1945 debut as Rolex’s inaugural waterproof, self-winding chronometer wristwatch. He charts every milestone – from Hans Wilsdorf’s “every discovery made to date” moment to the 1953 introduction of the Cyclops lens that “completed” its design – and enriches the story with testimony from Rolex Testimonees spanning elite athletes to leading cultural figures.
Presented in a premium hardcover and available in English and French from 29 September, the book is exclusively offered online at the Wallpaper*’s store for £100 GBP (approx. $136 USD) during the pre-order window. Beginning in October, select official Rolex retailers and independent booksellers worldwide will also carry the book.
