Copenhagen-based design studio TABLEAU has once again partnered with Bloc Studios for a collaborative offering. Marking their second project together, the collaboration centers on the TRUNK VASE — the perfect culmination of TABLEAU’s radical botanical expressions and Bloc Studios’ sculptural, avant-garde marble discipline.
As its name suggests, the TRUNK VASE features a form that’s reminiscent of a tree trunk. Carved from rare Giallo Imperiale marble, the pieces evoke the rugged texture of a tree trunk while retaining the refined finish of fine stone. Expert Carrara artisans shape each piece to highlight its natural veins and matte surface, then hollow out the core to house living flowers. The vase’s deliberately ambiguous form invites viewers to question the boundary between the organic world and human craft.
Julius Værnes Iversen, founder and creative director of TABLEAU, describes the TRUNK VASE as “more than a vessel for flowers — it’s a conversation about what connects us.” He explains, “We set out to create something that evokes both the human body and the forest, where the viewer’s interpretation becomes part of the piece.” Meanwhile, Sara Ferron, founder of Bloc Studios, adds that this collaboration challenged them “to stretch marble beyond function — into metaphor. The TRUNK VASE feels raw, almost primitive — yet it’s unmistakably refined. It reflects nature’s form and humanity’s place within it.” This dialogue between the designers underscores the conceptual depth and artistic intention behind the piece.
With just ten pieces produced worldwide, the TRUNK VASE is available exclusively through select galleries as well as TABLEAU and Bloc Studios‘ official platforms.
