Update: FDMTL has teamed up with Vans for a sixth time, tapping its new OTW by Vans line for the first time to rework the Old Skool 36 and Half Cab 33. Both pairs lean on FDMTL’s denim heritage by featuring sashiko-inspired looks created with Vans’ Engineered Knit technology that runs across each upper. Notably, the Half Cab 33 carries a FDMTL-branded woven hang flag at the lateral while both pairs sport compositions of “Citadel” blue and “Marshmallow.” Release takes place on May 30 via HBX, Vans, and other select retailers at prices of $135 USD and $140 USD for the Old Skool 36 and Half Cab 33 respectively.

Original Story: The Japanese denim specialists over at FDMTL have a longstanding history of collaborating with Vans, bringing patchworked denim to sneakers like the Slip-On and Authentic.

Now, the duo are teaming up via the new OTW by Vans division for the first time, putting together special takes on the Old Skool 36 and Half Cab 33 that were initially previewed during FDMTL’s Spring/Summer 2025 presentation. Both shoes recreate the look of FDMTL’s signature sashiko stitching, however, they sport a knit textile upper instead of a denim one. Various blues are accompanied by off-white detailing throughout, recreating the Jazz Stripe on each side of the shoe as well. OTW by Vans branding hits the heel while co-branding can be spotted at the sockliner.
At the time of writing, neither FDMTL nor OTW by Vans have announced their forthcoming collaboration featuring the Old Skool 36 and Half Cab 33.
