Indonesian firm RAD+ar has unveiled a home renovation that utilizes the unique geometry of a modern home nestled in a verdant garden. The renovated home, occupied by an architect couple, results in a voluminous multi-level space, rich with natural light and intimate alcoves.
The firm used an open layout design, removing some walls and corridors within the space, facilitating an uninterrupted flow. As one moves through the space, the alternation of light introversion and openness with light and shadow creates a dynamic sensory environment.
Light wooden flooring matches with existing birch plywood ceiling panels, while neutral grays and browns cover the walls. A departure from the organic-leaning materiality appears in the kitchen, where brushed stainless steel dominates surfaces.
In the attic, teracotta tile flooring frames a large conversation pit, emphasizing the grounded design choices with social design. The upholstery found in the conversation pit mirrors the custom upholstered bedframe nearby. In the bathroom, a burst of orange-brown is featured in the open shower for a dose of unexpected color
