Niontay Asserts His Underground Authority on 'Fada<3of$'
The rapper’s second studio album features Tony Seltzer, dj blackpower, SURF GANG, Mavi, El Cousteau, Sideshow and Jadasea.
With early-career appearances on cuts from MIKE and Earl Sweatshirt, emerging rapper Niontay has definitely established himself as one to watch from the underground – and if that wasn’t clear before the release of his second studio album, Fada<3of$ has surely cemented that sentiment.
The striking and sparse selection of 19 tracks that make up Fada<3of$ come lifted from the rapper’s summer 2024 trip to London, culminating in an alluringly abstract yet assertive, genre-blurring collection of songs.
Niontay produced the entire album himself with key contributions from his close-knit creative circle, including Tony Seltzer, dj blackpower, SURF GANG, Mavi, El Cousteau, Sideshow, and Jadasea.
“The initial name for the tape was 2009, that being the year my Ole boy passed, it completely changed my life,” Niontay shared more on the conceptualization of the album in a press statement.
“Same way I feel this album will, in a much more positive light. Death sucks but we gotta learn to celebrate it and send our loved ones off properly with love. That’s all I’m doing with this music, still tryna have fun and carry my Ole boy’s name and legacy on to the furthest extent despite the ‘reality’ of the situation.”
“I’m going to make sure my people good,” he continued. “My great great great grandchildren are going to know about my name, they are going to know about what their ancestor did and why they were able to live how they live. [I will be] somebody who opened doors not just for people around my way, but anybody I love.”
