Nanushka and ASICS' GEL-KINETIC FLUENT Merges Tech with Craft
Offered in two colorways the updated model boasts a stitched version of ASICS’ signature taping, bungee-style laces and a neoprene sock liner.
Budapest-based designer label Nanushka has teamed up with ASICS to reimagine the GEL-KINETIC FLUENT with a subtle mix of crafty details and technical features. With its playful composition and contrasting elements, the collaborative model is among the Japanese footwear label’s more unique collaborations.
Drawing from a natural palette, the collaboration includes two versatile colorways: a tan variant with black and silver details and a black variant with white stitching and amber heel cushions. Most notably, the model is tweaked to include a neoprene liner sock, which boasts a retro Nanushka tag at the tongue placement. To further enhance the technical feel, a hybrid bungee lacing system instead of the standard laces.
“Organic forms in nature are a key source of inspiration, fueling both my creativity and personal sense of balance. This collaboration marks an exciting milestone for us as we step into a new decade and honor the brand’s 20th anniversary,” shares Sandra Sándor, Founder and Creative Director of Nanushka.
The brand’s creative take on the ASICS runner goes the extra mile with its numerous tweaks, unlike other ASICS collabs, which typically play with color and material without significantly altering the silhouette. ASICS’ more avant-garde-leaning tie-ups have mainly flowed from its close partnership with Kiko Kostadinov, including the Novalis line and Kostadinov’s Otto 958.
“Collaborating with ASICS for Nanushka’s first sneaker felt instinctive, given our shared emphasis on movement and design integrity,” Sándor continued. Nanushka and ASICS’ collaboration expands upon the shoe brand’s mental health awareness initiative Crafts for Mind, by supporting Mind Over Mountains, a charity that aims to promote mental health through nature.
The Nanushka x ASICS GEL-KINETIC FLUENT will be available at the Nanushka web store, in Nanushka Flagship Stores in London and New York, and at Dover Street Market London on March 25 at 8am ET/12pm GMT/1pm CET.
