Hender Scheme Elevates Timberland's 3-Eye Lug Boat Shoe With Fine Japanese Leather
At $350 USD, the updated classic is offered in untreated full-grain leather sourced from a local Japanese tannery.
Unveiling their first-ever collaboration, Timberland and artisan Japanese leather goods label Hender Scheme have put a luxurious spin on the American footwear brand’s classic 3-Eye Lug Boat Shoe. For the cross-cultural tie-up, Hender Scheme reimagines the iconic preppy model with premium leather and innovative design details.
Sourcing from a local Japanese tannery, Hender Scheme utilizes untreated premium full-grain leather to allow the shoes to take on an authentic patina with long-term use. The material begins as a light beige and develops into a deeper brown hue as it ages. The collaborators say that “no two pairs are alike,” meaning that each shoe boasts a unique character that only gets richer over time.
Hender Scheme follows the general design of the original silhouette, giving the visibly heftier leather center stage. Along with the signature Timberland emblem placement on the lateral panel, small Hender Scheme wordmarks are embossed on a small leather tab and a removable diamond-shaped tag. While details like the kiltie tassels on the toe box give the design a vintage feel, embossed leather eyelets inject the model with a contemporary twist and showcase Hender Scheme’s expertise in leather manipulation.
The Timberland x Hender Scheme 3-Eye Lug Boat Shoe will be offered in an online raffle on March 12 and later, on March 21 in the brand’s Japanese stores.
