Sony Recovers From Extended PSN Downtime Over the Weekend

Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) experienced a significant outage over the weekend, lasting from Friday through Saturday evening. The disruption, which exceeded 24 hours, marked one of the longest unplanned service interruptions in recent years. Affected services included account management, social features and access to the PlayStation Store, leaving many users frustrated.

While the network has since been restored, Sony has not provided detailed insights into the specific cause of the outage. According to Polygon, a spokesperson for Sony Interactive Entertainment acknowledged the issue and reassured users that services were fully operational again. To address the inconvenience, the company is granting all PlayStation Plus members an automatic extension of five additional days to their subscriptions.

The prolonged silence from Sony only intensified concerns, especially among players who recalled the infamous 2011 PSN outage, which lasted 23 days due to a massive security breach that exposed personal data from 77 million accounts.
