CoMix Wave Films has announced the release of a new Pokémon anime titled, Dragonite and the Postman, set to premiere on February 27 in celebration of this year’s Pokémon Day.

CoMix Wave Films, known for producing acclaimed animated features such as Makoto Shinkai‘s Your Name, Weathering With You and Suzume, is behind the production of this anime. Tasuku Watanabe, who’s known for his involvement in the aforementioned Makoto Shinkai movies, will be serving as the art director. The director, Taku Kimura, is also an industry veteran who’s worked on several notable productions such as Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction.

The script is written by Kentaro Nana, while the music is composed by Evan Call, who also worked on the score for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. Call also composed the movie’s theme song, “Paper Plane,” which will be performed by suis from yorushika.

In Dragonite and the Postman, Hana, a young girl who admires a Dragonite postman, receives a letter without an addressee and sets out with her partner Pokémon, Fuecoco, to find the sender. She discovers the sender is a boy named Rio who wrote the letter for his father’s birthday, but it turns out to be his father’s birthday already, adding urgency to Hana’s mission.

Premiering on February 27 12 a.m. JST, Dragonite and the Postman will be available to stream on YouTube via the official Pokémon channel, allowing fans to easily access the new story.
