The mention of Demna often evokes the bold shoulders and oversized shapes of Balenciaga, but in his sophomore collection for Gucci, he showcases quite a different sensibility. Evoking the 90s-era Gucci of Tom Ford, the Pre-Fall 2026 lookbook is shot in the style of one of Ford’s runway shows: a bare runway and a bright spotlight casting stark shadows.
American model of the moment, Alex Consani, opens the lookbook, dressed shirtless in a baby pink pant suit comprising a slim fit jacket and skinny-as-ever trousers. The following looks, including both men’s and women’s, continue with standard tailored ensembles — styled casually with tapered denim and turtleneck shirts.
As the lookbook progresses, Demna leans further into the everyday sensibilities, with pieces that one might consider Gucci “basics”. Suede and leather outerwear styles range from lengthy overcoats, motorcycle jackets with red-and-green banded arms, and solid blousons. Later, men’s looks often incorporate plain muscle tees — a far cry from Demna’s once boxy, XL t-shirts of yesteryear.
Classic Gucci patterns, including florals inspired by its Florentine heritage, are interpreted with modesty. A handful of lightweight dresses boast the ornate prints of ’70s-’80s Gucci, and elsewhere, a men’s satin bathrobe is covered in a classic burgundy necktie pattern. Standing out are animal prints, like snake and leopard, as well as a few plush fur looks. For example, a voluminous white fur jacket that would otherwise read as a maximalist statement is subdued by a neutral-toned second skin set.
The branded leather goods and sleek footwear are a major highlight, giving the looks an extra Gucci kick. Regularly recurring is a sharp-toed silhouette adorned with Gucci’s signature hardware, seen in ballet flats, heels, and mules. Bags swing from micro sizes, including a reintroduced Jackie 1961 bag and ultra-small Ophidia styles, as well as roomy weekender sizes.
The final men’s look is worn by none other than male supermodel, Alton Mason, lugging a gigantic black leather bag and wearing nothing else but a V-neck leotard and loafer slides. Lastly, the collection closes with a run of evening looks, including club-appropriate sheer two-piece sets, and occasion-ready gowns glittering with silver sequins.
