  • The first Supergirl trailer reveals Milly Alcock as a cynical anti-hero
  • Director Craig Gillespie emphasizes her inner turmoil and “punk” imperfection
  • The footage includes a first look at Jason Momoa as Lobo

DC Studios has released the first trailer for James Gunn‘s Supergirl. The preview immediately establishes Milly Alcock‘s Kara Zor-El as a contrast to her cousin, Superman, with her defining line: “He sees the good in everyone. And I see the truth.”

Set to Blondie‘s “Call Me,” the trailer highlights a cynical Kara struggling with inner turbulence, a core theme emphasized by director Craig Gillespie. He describes the film as “really an anti-hero story. She’s got a lot of baggage and a lot of demons coming into this.” The footage features a chaotic aesthetic reminiscent of Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, showing Supergirl navigating gritty alien colonies. It also offers a first look at Jason Momoa as the anti-hero Lobo and Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem.

Gunn has been a strong supporter of Alcock’s casting from the start, calling her the “punk” version of a superhero and noting that female leads are rarely given the freedom to be so imperfect.

Based on Tom King’s graphic novel Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the film is scheduled for release on June 26, 2026.
