Zenith’s collaboration with Monkey Punch’s iconic animated series, Lupin The Third began in 2019 with the launch of the Chronomaster A384 “Lupin The Third”, a watch nearly five decades in the making. Inspired by the fictional timepiece worn by Daisuke Jigen, Lupin’s trusted partner in the celebrated Japanese anime series, the release marked the start of a trilogy of limited editions that transformed an imagined design into reality.
The connection between Zenith and Lupin The Third traces back to 1969, when the brand introduced the groundbreaking El Primero caliber housed in the A384, just two years before the anime’s debut. In the series, Jigen was depicted wearing a Zenith watch on two occasions, first with a black dial, then with a silver one, though the watch itself never existed outside of animation until Zenith brought it to life decades later.
The trilogy unfolded with remarkable creativity: the first edition in 2019 was a steel model limited to 50 pieces with a black dial and gilt accents, accompanied by a unique piece auctioned by Phillips that faithfully echoed the anime’s depiction. In 2020, Zenith followed with a 200-piece steel chronograph featuring a “panda” dial, pairing a white background with black counters. The third edition, unveiled in 2021, fused both designs into a single asymmetrical dial, uniting the black and silver variations in one bold creation. Each release captured the imagination of collectors and anime fans alike, blending horological heritage with pop culture storytelling in a way few collaborations have achieved.
The latest chapter, the Chronomaster Revival Daisuke Jigen Edition, takes the tribute further by aligning even closer to the manga portrayal. Crafted in a 37mm matte black microblasted titanium case, it features a beige dial with contrasting black chronograph counters, a tachymeter scale, and beige Super-LumiNova® accents for a warm, vintage-inspired aesthetic. At its core beats the El Primero 400 calibre, a direct descendant of the 1969 movement, offering tenth-of-a-second precision and a 50-hour power reserve.
Paired with a reinterpreted titanium ladder bracelet originally designed by Gay Frères in 1969, the watch balances heritage and modern ergonomics. Limited to 200 pieces, the edition will be available through Zenith’s Isetan Shinjuku pop-up on November 19, ahead of its November 26 global release.
