Zenith has unveiled the Chronomaster Revival A384 Tropical, a poetic reinterpretation of its landmark 1969 high-frequency chronograph through a vintage-meets-modern lens.
The original A384 stood out as one of the inaugural references to house the El Primero caliber — the world’s first automatic, integrated high-frequency chronograph movement. This new edition draws its creative soul from rare vintage “tropical” dials, whose once-black faces naturally evolved into warm, rich brown tones through decades of sunlight exposure and oxidation.
True to its heritage, the Revival A384 Tropical retains the compact 37mm stainless steel tonneau‑shaped case, complete with pump pushers and alternating brushed‑polished finishes. Faceted indices and hands are coated with “old radium” Super‑LumiNova, evoking the patina of time while ensuring legibility, while a vivid red chronograph seconds hand adds a contemporary accent.
Beneath the vintage exterior beats the El Primero 400 calibre, the most faithful modern descendant of the original movement that revolutionized the industry over 50 years ago. Entirely manufactured in-house, this column-wheel chronograph operates at an ultra-precise frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, allowing for measurements accurate to 1/10th of a second. The movement, which offers a 50-hour power reserve and an openworked star-shaped rotor, is visible through a sapphire case back. Available through Zenith boutiques and authorized retailers worldwide, the Chronomaster Revival A384 Tropical is priced at $10,000 USD.
