Summary
- Salone del Mobile Milano is launching a new show dedicated to collectible design
- It will take place as part of the wider fair in April, in a space curated by Annalisa Rosso and designed by Formafantasma
The organisers of Salone del Mobile Milano have announced that it will launch a new collectible design platform named “Salone Raritas”.
Set to take place during next year’s edition in April, the Salone Raritas show will be curated by Annalisa Rosso, with scenography designed by Formafantasma.
As with the wider trade fair, the collectible counterpart will also be located at the Fiera Milano exhibition space in Rho, giving visitors the chance to see limited edition design pieces amongst the branded booths.
It marks a growing trend in the design industry, where interior designers and fans alike are gravitating towards limited-edition and one-offs.
“Our role has always been to stay ahead of the curve: today we are doing so by throwing open a new chapter devoted to authorial design, research, and antiques – an extraordinarily fertile territory – which interacts directly with the professional design system,” said Maria Porro, President of the Salone del Mobile Milano.
While galleries haven’t yet been announced, curator Annalisa Rosso and Formafantasma shared details of what the show might look like – noting that it’s a “challenge” to create something within the gridded confines of a traditional fair format.
Describing their design as a “large architectural lantern”, Formafantasma will use modular islands to present the works and galleries, with a designated color and material palette clearly defining the spaces. There will also be a central lounge for appointments.
“Salone Raritas heralds a new chapter for the collectible design segment, which is evolving and expanding its characteristics and range of possibilities,” said Rosso, who also serves as the Editorial Director and Cultural Events Advisor for the Salone del Mobile.
“It’s not a disruption of [what already exists], it’s an evolution.”
Salone Raritas will take place from April 21 to 26, 2026, in pavilions 9-11.
