Peridot Bar, the latest project from Studio Paolo Ferrari, has opened on the 38th floor of The Henderson, the sinuous architectural tower in Central, Hong Kong, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects. The bar is conceived as an intimate, cinematic and emotionally charged space that embodies Ferrari’s philosophy of “Natural Futurism” or “Timeless Futurism” — a conceptual duality rooted in memory yet propelled by courageous invention.
Enveloped within the ZHA-designed sculptural tower, the bar presents itself as a cocoon-like environment, where soft green plastered walls and ceilings merge seamlessly, punctuated by glowing frosted acrylic cylinders capped in steel. These pixelated interventions reference Minimalist and Conceptual art, while mirrored finishes capture shifting daylight and city lights, creating a sense of temporal flux.
Ferrari’s hallmark lies in crafting spaces that evoke feeling as much as form, and Peridot exemplifies this through a richly tactile palette. Plush mohair seating, high-gloss lacquered furnishings, and carved alcoves create intimacy, while the overall design channels the decadence of old-world smoking rooms reimagined through a lens of romantic futurism. The central bar, carved from green marble, anchors the space with elemental weight, magnifying the gestures of bartenders led by mixologist François Cavelier. Here, function meets theatre, with acoustics shifting to heighten the drama of each pour and stir, contrasting with the hushed atmosphere of the lounge.
