ModRetro Brings Back ‘Rayman’ for Its 30th Anniversary on the Chromatic Handheld
One of the most iconic 2D platformers, the 1995 original has been revived and updated with modern touches.
ModRetro has announced the return of Rayman, launching a special 30th-anniversary edition of the classic platformer for its Chromatic handheld system. The release revives Ubisoft’s 1995 original – one of the most iconic 2D platformers – in an all-new physical cart complete with modern updates, retro-inspired full color packaging.
The updated Chromatic version includes over 30 of the original levels, spanning the game’s signature vibrant worlds and physics-driven platforming and allowing players to guide Rayman through familiar landscapes to rescue the Electoons from Mr. Dark. The release stays true to the original art direction while refining color, sound and performance for ModRetro’s handheld display, with the hero jumping, punching and gliding his way through a detailed 2D world.
Alongside the game, ModRetro has packaged the release with collector details including a printed manual and a Chromatic Charm featuring a character from the series. The physical presentation mirrors the nostalgic feel of retro cartridge gaming while offering updates such as enhanced save features and smoother performance.
The “Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition” game is available now via the ModRetro’s website priced at £44.99 GBP / $44.99 USD, while the Game Boy-esque “Chromatic” handheld costs £199.99 GBP / $199.99 USD and comes in seven color options.
