Everything We Loved in Music This Week: November 22

This week in music is setting us up for a solid close to 2024.

Kenny Mason continues to make strides after last week’s Killer Mike co-sign; the rapper rises once again with a new three-track EP, as well as a confirmed appearance on MAVI’s mixtape dropping next week.

As two of my favorite (and once-gatekept) artists Dijon and fakemink are both wrapping the year with full-circle co-signs by the cultural mainstream.

Following up on last week’s Killer Mike co-sign, Kenny Mason has dropped off his first new music in a year. Based on how expansive his discography is from 2023 and 2024, I’d honestly forgotten it had been that long, but boy, are we so back or whatever.

MAVI Announces Imminent New EP The Pilot, Confirmed to Precede a New Album

The Charlotte rapper is readying to take flight with his next new mixtape, dropping on Tuesday. Dubbed The Pilot, the project is confirmed to span 10 tracks, and features Smino on “Potluck,” Earl on “Landgrab,” as well as MIKE on “Triple Nickel” and, our guy Kenny Mason on “Typewriter.”

Dijon Announced For SNL

It’s been a good week for once-IYKYK artists. In a similar vein to fakemink nabbing a major mainstream co-sign from Supreme, Dijon is confirmed to (finally) take the Saturday Night Live stage. He’ll bring his raw, intimate aesthetic to the ultimate intimate stage in NYC for his late-night debut.

Bon Iver Drops a New … Color

That took a turn, didn’t it? If you weren’t tapped in with the latest Bon Iver album rollout for SABLE fABLE, which dropped back in April, Justin Vernon was totally obsessed with this very specific salmon colorway that engulfed the album’s entire encompassing world. A sea of collaborations followed suit, ranging from Todd Snyder to Fish Wife, each collab good doused in the project’s signature salmon hue. Well, now, Vernon is making it official – like, teaming up with Pantone official – to properly “drop” the new color, dubbed fABLE Salmon.

This is a layered addition to this week’s list. Surely didn’t love: the delay, the FOMO that came from the aforementioned delay. Love, even from afar: the new talent on the lineup. Kali Uchis, Geese, fakemink, and Blood Orange.
