Designer Tom Robinson’s Intra Side Table is a striking piece of furniture designed to endure both indoor and outdoor environments. Hand-cast from weatherproof concrete and infused with vibrant pigments, the table is built to last for decades, offering a durable alternative to mass-produced furniture that often deteriorates quickly.
Its bold, graphic silhouette derives influence from the structural efficiency of an I-beam, with two vertical walls forming a central void that doubles as a practical storage space for books, laptops, or even firewood. This combination of sculptural integrity was meticulously developed to minimize weight while maximizing strength, a process informed by research into enduring structures like industrial beams and Roman columns.
The design is the result of Robinson’s work with the UK’s leading concrete casting facility, Mass Concrete, as part of his commitment to researching and redefining the “Made in UK” idea. The table is hand-cast using a reinforced concrete composite that is blended with recycled aggregate and sand. To ensure a quality finish, the tabletop is polished to a smooth, scratch-free surface. It’s available in two color choices, spanning a calming Olive Green or an Earthen Red, with vibrant pigments added to the liquid concrete before casting.
