  • Engineered Garments partnered with Brooks Brothers to redefine formalwear, blending it with casual workwear codes.
  • The limited collection, which includes denim tuxedo jackets and utilitarian trousers, aims to balance formality and ease.

NYC-based label Engineered Garments has partnered with Brooks Brothers on a limited edition collection redefining formalwear with workwear codes.

Engineered Garments founder Daiki Suzuki shared that “the goal was to create a new interpretation of formalwear that balances the seemingly opposing extremes of formality and casual ease,” in a statement for WWD.  In close conversations with Brooks Brothers chief executive officer Ken Ohashi and creative director Michael Bastian, Daiki and the 207-year-old label wanted to challenge the boundaries of occasion dressing and the daily wardrobe. Ohashi added, “Partnering with Daiki and Engineered Garments allowed us to explore formalwear codes in an entirely new light — mixing tradition with unexpected creativity in a way that feels both authentic and fresh.”

In one look, a denim tuxedo jacket boasts satin lapels, while wide-leg trousers are designed with a utilitarian cut. Pulling from the archives, denim and Oxford cravat shirts draw references from an original 1960s Brooks Brothers shirt called the Clarney. Elsewhere, blazers are worn with indigo denim, a striped tie is reimagined as a flamboyant bow, and suits are styled with beanies and sneakers.

Engineered Garments has never been shy to lend its vision for collaborations. Along with earlier collaborations with retailers like UNIQLO, more recently, the label has leaned into more elevated partnerships, including footwear with Red Wing and apparel with J.Crew. The latest collaboration continues to expand on Engineered Garments’ urban tailoring ethos with the backing of one of menswear’s pioneering tastemakers.

The Brooks Brothers x Engineered Garments collection lands on October 22 at the Brooks Brothers 195 Broadway flagship, and online at Brooks Brothers and Engineered Garments’ webshop, nepenthesny.com.
