French Montana is facing a major new legal headache after two Swiss businessmen filed a $1 million USD lawsuit against the rapper, accusing him of fraudulent misrepresentation and theft over a luxury watch. The plaintiffs, Justo Obiang and Samir Gato, claim that Montana borrowed their high-end timepiece for Paris Fashion Week but never returned it.
According to the lawsuit, the drama began in 2024 when the rapper, whose real name is Karim Kharbouch, reconnected with the men in Egypt. After allegedly refusing to trade watches, Montana asked to borrow the valuable piece for 30 days, offering his own watch as collateral, which he claimed was also worth $1 million USD. However, the men allege that Montana never returned their original watch, and the collateral watch he provided turned out to be a counterfeit.
The lawsuit seeks at least $1 million USD in damages, accusing the rapper of “unjust enrichment” and “conversion.” Montana’s attorney, Steve Haddad, vehemently denies the allegations and stated that his client plans to file a countersuit. Haddad claims the rapper accepted the Swiss men’s watch as payment for promotional appearances in Egypt and not as a temporary loan. The case highlights the complex and often precarious nature of high-stakes, informal deals in the world of celebrity and luxury goods.
