Toyota Reveals Mobility-Focused "Woven City" Project
A prototype city designed to pioneer mobility innovation, with plans for an official launch in late 2025.
Toyota has announced the completion of Phase 1 construction of Woven City, its futuristic prototype city designed to pioneer mobility innovation. Unveiled at CES 2025, the project is set for its official launch in the fall of 2025, marking a significant milestone for Toyota’s transformation into a mobility company.
Located in Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, on the former site of Toyota’s Higashi-Fuji Plant, Woven City spans approximately 50,000 square meters (12 acres) in its initial phase. The city is designed as a “human-centric” hub where Toyota and its partners, including Daikin, NISSIN and UCC Japan, will test innovative technologies across mobility, energy and daily living.
Woven City earned Japan’s first LEED for Communities Platinum certification, highlighting its environmentally conscious design. The city aims to integrate advanced solutions for transportation, urban living and sustainability. Starting in the fall of 2025, around 100 initial residents, primarily Toyota and Woven by Toyota staff and their families will move in. Over time, the population is expected to grow to 360 residents in Phase 1, with future phases accommodating up to 2,000 people.
Beyond internal testing, Woven City will welcome external startups, entrepreneurs and academic partners through an accelerator program starting in the summer of 2025.
