BMW is set to redefine its in-car technology with the debut of its “Panoramic iDrive” at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. This next-generation display and operating system promises an increased level of driver focus, personalization and ergonomic design. Scheduled to roll out across all new BMW models from late 2025, the system represents a significant leap in tech for the automaker.

At the core of the Panoramic iDrive is the “BMW Panoramic Vision,” an expansive head-up display stretching from A-pillar to A-pillar. Projecting critical driving information directly into the driver’s line of sight, it ensures minimal distraction while keeping essential data easily accessible. Complementing this is the optional BMW 3D Head-Up Display, which integrates navigation and automated driving cues into the driver’s field of vision.

The BMW Operating System X acts as the intelligent backbone of the Panoramic iDrive. Built on an Android Open Source Project framework, it enables real-time updates, enhanced personalization and seamless integration of third-party apps. Its intuitive interface lets drivers transfer widgets from the central touchscreen to the panoramic display with just a swipe.

Further enhancing the driving experience, the multifunction steering wheel incorporates illuminated “shy-tech” buttons with haptic feedback, ensuring intuitive control without diverting attention from the road. Combined with touch, voice and physical controls, the system delivers fluid interaction.

Over time, the system is designed to adapt to driver habits, proactively suggesting modes and settings tailored to individual preferences. The new Panoramic iDrive system will see its official launch through vehicles in the Neue Klasse lineup, rolling out in late 2025.
