Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’ to Stream in IMAX for 10th Anniversary
Showings begin globally on December 6.
Nearly a decade ago, Christopher Nolan premiered his sci-fic epic, Interstellar. With people on a near-future Earth facing potential extinction, a group of scientists travel through a wormhole near Saturn to seek out a new home for humankind.
Upon its release in October 2014, Interstellar became an instant box office hit and went on to garner over $700 million USD, making it one of the highest-grossing movies of the year.
In honor of the film’s upcoming 10th anniversary, Interstellar will be shown in 70mm IMAX prints in theater globally. Nolan has previously espoused his desire for viewers to watch his movies in IMAX, most recently while discussing Oppenheimer.
“You rarely get the chance to really talk to moviegoers directly about why you love a particular format and why if they can find an IMAX screen to see the film on that’s great,” Nolan told the Associated Press. “We put a lot of effort into shooting the film in a way that we can get it out on these large format screens. It really is just a great way of giving people an experience that they can’t possibly get in the home.”
The anniversary showings will begin on December 6 with Interstellar being shown both in 70mm IMAX and digitally.
