Fresh off his BET Album of the Year win for MICHAEL, Killer Mike unleashed new single “HUMBLE ME.” The three-minute track sees the rapper address his Grammy’s arrest and finding a kidney for his son Pony Boy and how the hardships he’s faced have built him into the man he is today.

“I was in the studio the very next day,” Mike recalled in a statement of the day after his arrest.

“I’m as inspired as ever and I’m just following the music at this point. All my heroes have been cuffed and mishandled in some way. I just thanked God in that moment of being Daniel in the lion’s den. I came out of the jailhouse in the pouring rain to my wife waiting for me, lit a joint, celebrated a bit and then woke up and got the news about my son’s kidney. I believe that humility and worship granted me God’s grace in the face of that test, and I believe my son receiving his kidney was a blessing from God.”

He sums up these exact sentiments in “HUMBLE ME”‘s lyrics.

“I won at the Grammys for spitting my grammar / Did that for Atlanta, bruh / Swept up like a janitor, got sent to the slammer bruh / Treat me like an animal or some kind of Hannibal, vicious and cannibal,” he spits on the track’s third verse.

“The devil be doing you right when you doing it / The devil will ruin you, behind me Satan, I walked out the door, my head up and handcuffs in pride / Cause all of my heroes wore handcuffs, the FBI shot some of them and they died.”

“HUMBLE ME” seems to be the first from Mike’s new project, which is slated to pick up right where MICHAEL left off.
