Japanese sportswear brand ASICS has released a new apparel collection for Fall / Winter 2024 from the ASICS SportStyle category. Applying the brand’s sports technology to lifestyle apparel, this new collection uses functional materials and sophisticated designs to elevate each item.

The second of its kind, the capsule features jackets, graphic T-shirts, trousers, logo caps and socks, with a unisex design. Each item’s adjustable function allows the silhouette to be changed depending on the occasion, creating a new look in minutes. Utilizing the rich archives and advanced technology of ASICS, which boasts a history of over 70 years, the collection evolves the wearer’s lifestyle into something more comfortable.

The CONVERTIBLE LINED PANT and SIDE SNAP KNIT PANT, the key items in this collection, use side zips and snap buttons to pair with other styles. Their functional yet transformative capabilities allow the wearer to create versatile and original streetwear looks.

Takayuki Ueda, who worked on the latest ASICS SportStyle apparel collection for the autumn/winter 2024 season, spoke to Hypebeast to reveal more about the collection’s features and background.

Hypebeast: First, please tell us about ASICS SportStyle and the characteristics of the collection.

Takayuki Ueda: The ASICS SportStyle apparel collection is a total coordination proposal from the sportswear brand ASICS that is compatible with our shoes for an active lifestyle. The collection’s main role and design guiding principle is to make everyday life more comfortable and to uplift the body and mind through design and functional design inspired by sports interpretations and archives.

The latest collection is sporty, but also has a street culture feel to it. What were your sources of inspiration and ideas?

Rather than taking specific inspiration from something, we are always conscious of creating something new in the ASICS SportStyle style, drawing on our strengths and deciphering market changes and people’s ideas and mindsets. As sports-inspired lifestyle wear, our products are comfortable and highly practical, but we are also strongly committed to not compromising on design.

The design of the collection is not about the full appeal of sports technology, but about how it should be balanced and incorporated into the required style. Our concept is that the wearer should actually feel the technology when wearing it, not just see it.

What are the distinctive items in this collection among the various items in the line-up, such as jackets, logo caps and socks?

For this collection, we have prepared two set-ups with different styles. The first is the CONVERTIBLE LINED PANT with a side zipper, designed with utility in mind. The design allows for various silhouettes depending on how the zipper is opened and closed, which not only broadens the range of styling options, but also allows for ease of movement in different situations.

The second is the SIDE SNAP KNIT PANT, inspired by archival sportswear. This design is inspired by basketball warm-up wear and is characterized by the snap buttons on the side. The snap buttons can be opened to enjoy layering as overpants. The silhouette of all items, not just the bottoms, is designed for ease of movement and to match the wearer’s body shape, and the use of materials that focus on comfort is also a major feature.

Finally, could you give us some examples of recommended coordination, including the aforementioned items?

In terms of coordination, we of course have deep intentions in designing the balance and combinations in the set-up, but we value the styling possibilities for everyone to express their own personal style in their own interpretation at that moment, without being bound by the look we transmit.
This collection is a collection with a versatile character that does not limit the wearer or the style of the combination of outfits, and we hope that you will be able to coordinate your own interpretation of the collection, as each item is focused on originality and can become the star of an outfit. We hope that you will interpret and co-ordinate these items accordingly.

Another interesting aspect of ASICS SportStyle is how it can be combined with a variety of shoes, using the variable silhouette to coordinate with shoes, so we hope you will enjoy it. We look forward to the opportunity to see your different outfits on the street.

The new ASICS SportStyle apparel collection will be available on Friday, August 9, through ASICS’ official online store and select retailers. For more details on each item, please visit the link provided.
