Tesla is recalling thousands of its Cybertrucks, the second time the company has issued a recall since shipping the cars to the public. The issue this time around apparently stems from the Cybertruck’s giant windshield wiper, The Verge reported first.

A notice published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) explained that the recall impacts Cybertrucks manufactured between November 2023 and June 2024, or nearly 12,000 Cybertrucks. About 2% are estimated to have a defect where the wiper will stop working due to “electrical overstress,” which essentially means that a component for the wiper is subject to a higher voltage or more power than it can handle.

Cybertruck owners will have to bring their cars in to be serviced and Tesla technicians will replace the motor for the windshield wiper. Back in 2021, Elon Musk said that the Cybertruck’s windshield wiper was one of the components that “troubles [him] most.”

In April, Tesla previously recalled 3,878 Cybertrucks – all of the units it had shipped at the time – due to a jammed accelerator pedal that prevented drivers from braking. The company said it’s not aware of any accidents or deaths stemming from either issue and will fix the recalled vehicles free of charge.
