TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Meets the Porsche 963 in a Limited-Edition Watch
An homage to the legendary Porsche 963 racing car.
TAG Heuer and Porsche go way back. With a shared history in motorsports, the two companies have crossed paths many times in the past seven decades. Uniting their similarities as well as mutual beliefs and dedication towards functional design, a collaborative timepiece has been officially unveiled to commemorate this partnership.
The watch, aptly named the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963 is a limited edition model that not only celebrates both brands’ histories but also nods to the legendary Porsche 963 vehicle itself. Naturally, the timepiece borrows cues from automotive engineering, boasting a ruggedly sporty design starring a tubular skeleton dial. Attired in a 44mm finely brushed steel case, the fitted tachymeter bezel imbues a harmonizing touch to the piece with its blackened and forged carbon build.
Continuing the race-coded color scheme, the subdias also come in a black makeover, but it’s integrated with Super-LumiNova blocks for low-light readability, while also paying homage to Porsche’s innovative LED lights. The watch face is elevated with a touch of red, which punctuates the monochromatic dial in the form of lacquered hands.
The caseback offers a peek into the watch’s inner workings, namely the TH20-00 movement that’s geared with chronograph, date, hour, minutes and seconds indications. Completing the piece is an integrated rubber strap, which was inspired by NACA-style low-drag air inlets and specially engraved with “963” on its central link.
The official campaign for the launch also features American racer and actor, Patrick Dempsey. Limited to 963 examples, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963 time-teller has a price point of $9,200 USD and is currently available to purchase through TAG Heuer.
