'Metal Gear Solid Delta' Could Bring the Series Back
“We want the players to be able to judge for themselves whether this new team is right for the job of keeping ‘Metal Gear’ going,” said producer Noriaki Okamura.
As fans await an update on the release of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami’s forthcoming remake of the original MGS 3 from 2004, producer Noriaki Okamura has hinted that the updated game could be the start of the series’ revival under a “new team.”
In a new video promoting Delta‘s release on Monday, David Hayter, the voice of Solid Snake, Naked Snake and Big Boss, sat down with Okamura to discuss the forthcoming remake. “[There are] plenty of people on the team who were part of the original games,” he said, adding that they have now “been entrusted with the future of Metal Gear.”
“We want the players to be able to judge for themselves whether this new team is right for the job of keeping Metal Gear going,” Okamura continued. His team has built on the stealth game franchise, which was initially created by Hideo Kojima, with both the aforementioned Delta title and the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection compilation, though it has not added an entirely new gameplay to the mix.
Okamura stated, “Everyone who is no longer working on Metal Gear is pursuing their own path now, and that’s going to remain the case for these titles.” Hence, it’s safe to assume that the developer will continue to create or remake more Metal Gear games in the future, despite its changing team members.
Notably, Okamura collaborated with Kojima on titles including Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes. Now, his MGS 3 remake could be the beginning of the series’ revival, which would likely see remakes for Portable Ops and Peace Walker come next.
Until there’s any certain word, fans of the franchise can relish in the first official trailer for the forthcoming remake.
