Madlib Releases “REEKYOD” Featuring Black Thought and Your Old Droog
The track is a reflection on the importance of artistic independence.

Madlib has officially released his first single through his own label, Madlib Invazion, which takes its name from the first EP the producer put out under his own name in 2000.
The song is called “REEKYOD” and sees Madlib enlist talent from two generations of rap heavyweights, The Roots’ Black Thought and the Ukrainian-American rapper, Your Old Droog.
Opening with a rhythmic thumping beat, “REEKYOD” is a reflection on artistic independence, stressing the importance of hip-hop as a vehicle for self-expression.
“This is strictly for the honorees. Madlib is in his bag per usual and YOD is more than a force to be reckoned with. Simply complex, this piece is high art. Triple threat. Instant classique,” Black Thought said.
“It’s an honor to be inducted into the heavyweight class of hip hop,” Droog added. “To be able to spar with one of the greatest MC’s on a beat by the greatest producer is a dream come true. Look out for the Madlib x YOD album coming soon.”
Fans can hope that Droog’s Madlib collaboration teaser is in fact true and that a full-length LP from the two is on the way.
