Luka Sabbat’s Dr. Martens Have Seen It All
From Paris to New York City – and plenty of mosh pits, music festivals and Fashion Weeks in between – Sabbat brings his Dr. Martens everywhere. Hypebeast sat down with Sabbat to learn more about his “Loved by Luka” partnership with the footwear label and why the link-up just makes sense.
Luka Sabbat’s favorite place to rock his Dr. Martens is in the mosh pit, he tells Hypebeast just a few hours removed from his most recent headbanging frolic — a “kinda mid” Coachella Weekend 1. “The more you wear them and the dirtier they get, the cooler they look,” he explains. A trusted style arbiter, Sabbat has just teamed up with the beloved utilitarian footwear brand to curate a lineup of “Loved by Luka” shoes, which consists of a new Mule offering and a selection of his favorite silhouettes. Here’s why.
“I always saw people I thought were really cool wearing Docs,” Sabbat starts off, chronicling his lifelong connection to the brand. “My mom always wore ‘em.”
He immediately recalls the classic lace-up combat boot as his first pair and cites the first VETEMENTS x Dr. Martens combat boot as his favorite. “I wore those basically every day for years until the sole completely fell off,” he continues, reminiscing on rocking his Docs throughout his Soho stomping grounds and at many Governor’s Ball Music Festivals.
Sabbat grew up in Paris before moving to New York City, surrounded by a slew of distinct aesthetics and countercultures throughout his adolescence; however, Docs remained a constant wherever Sabbat settled.
“They’re universal,” he adds. “And they go with everything.”
In partnership with the storied footwear label, Sabbat debuted the new Laketen Mules, which he enjoys for their versatility. “It’s cool because if you’re wearing pants, because of how the sole is, you can fool people into thinking you’re wearing boots or loafers,” he laughs. “They’re as comfortable as any other mule, but they’re easy to dress up.”
Inspired by Doc’s archival 90’s sandals, the Laketens are crafted from rugged Atlas leather and sit atop a chunky platform sole. A gold buckle and yellow welt stitching polish off the classic silhouette.

“I’m in cozy mode right now though,” Sabbat explains of his current era, pairing the Laketen’s with cargo shorts – which have to land above the knee in order for Sabbat to deem them “shorts” – and vintage band T-shirts.
As for the other shoes in Sabbat’s “Loved by Luka Sabbat” collection, he’s selected a diverse array of boots, loafers, and, of course, more mules.
“I’m a uniform kind of guy. Once I find that one fit, I’ll just stick to different variations of that.”
The suede Zebzag Mules are built on a hybrid air-cushioned sole and see an adjustable strap around the heel, whereas the Jorge II Mules, equipped with the same adjustable strap, see nubuck uppers and sit atop Dr. Marten’s Sole sandal sole.
High-top silhouettes include the 1460 Mono Smooth Leather Lace-Up Boots and 1460 Pascal Bex Exposed Steel Toe Lace-Up Boots, with other low-tops arriving in the form of loafers and oxford shoes. Sabbat refers to Dr. Marten’s plethora of silhouettes and structures as “wardrobe staples.”
“The people before me wore Docs, and now I’m wearing them because they wore them, and the people after me will probably wear Docs because I was wearing them and so on.”
