Russell Wilson to Sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers

Acclaimed NFL quarterback Russell Wilson has been confirmed to sign a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The news comes after the Denver Broncos recently released him.

According to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, Wilson has signed a “team-friendly” one-year contract, in which the Broncos are set to pay $38 million USD of his salary while he dons the black and yellow. In 2024, he is set to be paid $39 million USD. In his last season with Denver, Wilson threw 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions last season. In late 2023, the Broncos benched Wilson despite him playing significantly better than in 2022. He is a nine-time Pro Bowler and currently has 43,653 yards, 334 touchdowns and 106 interceptions on-top of one Super Bowl championship in his 12 years in the league. Wilson is expected to sign with the Steelers in the new league year.

Prior to this decision, Wilson spoke with the New York Giants and Steelers and has appeared to see Pittsburgh as the clear winner. In a recent I Am Athlete podcast Wilson said, “I’ve got more fire than ever, honestly, especially over the past two years and what I’ve gone through. For me, it’s about winning. In the next five years, I want to win two. I want to feel the chill of that trophy again. I love the city and everything else, but you also want to be in a place that loves you, too. I want to win, that’s all I care about.”
