$10 Billion USD Makeover of Manhattan’s 73-Year-Old Midtown Bus Terminal
Designed by Foster + Partners and A. Epstein and Sons International Inc as a joint-venture.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has unveiled a design for the new Midtown Bus Terminal in Manhattan, spearheaded by Foster + Partners and A. Epstein and Sons International Inc. This innovative project, set to replace the current 73-year-old terminal, introduces a futuristic hub intended to significantly enhance the commuter experience. With a focus on sustainability and customer convenience, the terminal is designed to be net-zero emissions and will cater to the needs of the 21st-century commuter by integrating bus and subway networks into one seamless facility.
Central to the terminal’s design is a light-filled atrium, promoting ease of navigation and creating a welcoming environment for passengers. The 2.1 million square foot space is expected to alleviate current traffic concerns, introduce retail opportunities, and offer 3.5 acres of public green spaces. This $10 billion USD initiative aims to serve as a cornerstone for public transportation in the region, with phased construction leading to a grand opening slated for 2032. This project represents a significant investment in the future of New York City’s transit infrastructure, promising to enhance community well-being and commuter experiences alike.
