Designer Benjamin Fainlight Reveals Rolls-Royce and Jean Royère-Inspired Sofa
Dubbed the “Rolls-Royère,” blending the Ours Polaire sofa with the rear bench seat of a Rolls-Royce.
Artist and designer Benjamin Fainlight, behind temporary.company, has unveiled a new creation, the “Rolls-Royère,” a sofa inspired by the design characteristics of Jean Royère and Rolls-Royce.
Sharing more on the inspiration behind the sofa, Fainlight expressed that he realized similarities in the names “Jean Royère” and “Rolls-Royce” but that the two also carry with them similar cultural connotations in the forms of exclusivity and symbolism of status or taste. More specifically, Fainlight shared that the sofa fuses the DNA of the Ours Polaire sofa by Royère and the rear bench seat of a Rolls-Royce. Notably, the piece was rendered by Josh Chavez, who’s worked with Oracle Red Bull Racing, Zacari, Lady Gaga, and more.
While Fainlight’s sofa is currently unattainable and is simply an expression of creativity at the time of writing, the designer has released a limited edition collection of vintage automotive-inspired “Rolls-Royère” caps. Accessible through his temporary.company site, the hats are made of 100 percent nylon taslan, feature the Rolls-Royère wordmark on the front and the Rolls-Royère logo flip on the right side and are priced at $45 USD.
