Oversized Silhouettes and Limitless Creativity Define Sillage’s Winter 2024 Collection
“There’s so much in the world and things created by our ancestors that can be used as inspiration.”
Oversized may be ubiquitous across fashion today, but for Nicolas Chalmeau, better known by his middle name Yuthanan, it’s the only option. His label Sillage encourages customers to embrace exaggerated silhouettes as a break from the usual by only offering one size. The brand takes sartorial and cultural cues from Chalmeau’s French and Thai heritage, as well as the expert craftsmanship found in Japan, where he lives and works today.
Sillage’s winter 2024 offerings include sumptuous Harris Tweed outerwear, bespoke artisanal vests, a whole suite of baggy trousers and its first-ever knitwear line. Standouts include a gilet crafted in deadstock houndstooth that date back from between the 1980s to around 2000, as well as a jacket and pants for a matching set. For a more casual look, the “v neck wide three d knit” top, available in a classic navy and a more punchy yellow mix, is made in a renowned factory in Niigata.
“I see so many brands who are just copying each other,” Chalmeau previously told Hypebeast Magazine. “There’s so much in the world and things created by our ancestors that can be used as inspiration. But if you don’t travel or take time to research, you cannot make good clothes. I would say the most important asset in someone’s character is being curious.”
Rounding the collection out is an assortment of accessories, from casquette flap caps and tabi socks to padded mufflers. Shop Sillage’s winter 2024 collection online.
