OMA Unveils Installation for Louis Vuitton's New 57th Street NYC Store

Louis Vuitton has unveiled its largest retail space in the United States with the opening of the 57th Street Maison in New York City. This flagship location reimagines traditional retail as an immersive architectural experience, redefining the intersection of fashion, art and spatial design. Created in collaboration with the renowned architectural firm OMA, under the leadership of Shohei Shigematsu, the Maison sets a new benchmark in creative expression within a retail context.
At the heart of the five-story atrium, four towering sculptures crafted from Louis Vuitton’s iconic Courrier Lozine 90 trunks rise 16 meters high. These twisted, dynamic structures channel the vertical energy of New York City while honoring the brand’s rich heritage. Each tower showcases a distinct canvas pattern – historic Rayée stripes, classic Monogram, white Damier Azur, and metallic Monogram – creating a captivating interplay of textures and colors that celebrate Louis Vuitton’s timeless design legacy.
In the rear atrium, an 18-meter mirrored wall constructed from stacked Keepall and Speedy bags transforms these iconic designs into a mesmerizing architectural feature. Oversized photomurals showcasing bag patterns frame the installation, adding layers of depth and abstraction to the visual narrative, further intertwining art with Louis Vuitton’s design ethos.
Cultural and gastronomic experiences elevate the Maison further, with the U.S. debut of Le Café Louis Vuitton and Le Chocolat Maxime Frédéric. Located on the fourth floor, the café blends French culinary expertise with a New York loft-style ambiance, featuring a curated library of over 600 titles and dining led by celebrated chefs Christophe Bellanca and Marie George.
Each floor of the Maison offers a distinctive experience: leather goods on the first floor, women’s collections on the second and men’s universes on the third. The OMA-designed installations and innovative layout transcend conventional retail, establishing the 57th Street Maison as a cultural and design landmark where art, innovation and luxury converge.
