Matt Champion Follows Up "Faye" With "Hacker"
The latest in his post-’Mika’s Laundry’ string of singles.
After unveiling “Faye” last Friday, Matt Champion is back again with a weekday release this time. The former-BROCKHAMPTON musician proves to be locked in on his next LP, following up “Faye” with another single entitled “Hacker.”
Champion hinted he had something coming this week when he posted the cryptically captioned “Ten • Thirty” post. It turned out to be the aforementioned three-minute track which once again sees production from Henry Kwapis, but also signals a sonic shift from last week’s “Faye.”
“Hacker” takes a more introspective tone than the trap-tinged “Faye,” finding Champion crooning over a building bassline.
“Something tells me that you want me under your spell, ah ha / I know you see me, want to drag me to Hell, ah ha,” he sings in the chorus. “It’s only right, you’re the one to take me down / It serves you right, you’re the one who stays around home.”
Champion is set to perform next month at Tyler, the Creator‘s Camp Flog Gnaw.
