A24 Releases Luca Guadagnino's "Queer" Trailer Starring Daniel Craig
A surreal gay romance featuring Omar Apollo’s acting debut, and co-stars Drew Starkey and Jason Schwartzman.
The trailer for Luca Guadagnino‘s “Queer” has officially landed, following its premiere at the 2024 Venice Film Festival. The “Challengers” and “Call Me By Your Name” director has enlisted Daniel Craig for the lead role, along with co-stars Drew Starkey, singer Omar Apollo, Jason Schwartzman, and Lesley Manville.
The A24-produced film is based on the semi-autobiographical novel by William S. Burroughs of the same title. The novel is set in 1940s Mexico City and centers around the romantic ventures of American expat William Lee (played by Daniel Craig), as he pursues Navy serviceman Eugene Allerton (played by Drew Starkey). In the trailer, viewers can catch a glimpse at the surreal lens that Guadagnino has brought to the screenplay written by Justin Kuritzkes, who also wrote for “Challengers,” starring Zendaya.
According to Variety, Guadagnino described the gay romance as “a very personal movie about the inescapable quest for being recognized in the gaze of another through the lens of the great William Burroughs.” The Academy Award-winning director is known for his artistic exploration of queer and unconventional relationships.
