Daniel Roth Unveils New Tourbillon Souscription at LVMH Watch Week
Paying homage to one of the brand’s very first model, introduced in 1989.

Daniel Roth, a revered name in the world of independent watchmaking, has unveiled a new timepiece at this year’s LVMH Watch Week, namely, the Tourbillon Souscription. The watch marks a significant milestone in the brand’s journey, paying homage to its very first model, the Tourbillon ref. 2187/C187.
Founded in 1988, Daniel Roth has been celebrated for its innovation and craftsmanship in watchmaking. With its roots in the Vallee de Joux, the brand quickly distinguished itself with its unique and original designs, particularly the double ellipse case, a creative blend of a circle and square. This signature style, combined with guilloche dials and blued steel hands, points to the historic elegance of Abraham-Louis Breguet’s works while also providing a modern flair.
The brand’s journey to fame was accelerated by the introduction of one new complication each year, including chronographs, perpetual calendars and ultra-thin watches. Despite this, the Tourbillon, introduced in 1989, remains the flagship model. This pioneering wristwatch tourbillon featured the iconic double ellipse case and was initially financed through a Souscription or subscription order of 25 pieces. It soon became available in various precious metals and a limited stainless steel edition for the Italian market.
Representing a revival of the watch, the Tourbillon Souscription is a fitting tribute to the original creation. While staying true to its roots, the new model features an all-new in-house calibre and a solid gold, guilloche dial. The classic double ellipse case is retained but with improved ergonomics and a reduced thickness of 9.2mm.
La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, led by Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini, has been instrumental in this revival. With their extensive experience in fine complications and as long-time friends of Roth, they ensure that the new creations remain faithful to Roth’s original vision.
The Tourbillon Souscription DR0011YG-01 boasts impressive technical specifications, including a 4.6mm thick DR001 Calibre with an 80-hour power reserve, as well as a 1-minute tourbillon. Encased in 18K yellow gold and paired with a brown calfskin strap, this timepiece is meant to stand as a testament to Daniel Roth’s enduring legacy and watchmaking philosophy. The prototype is currently being showcased at LVMH Watch Week 2024 and will be available for viewing until February 1.
