Britney Spears Shuts Down Rumors of New Album, Vows To "Never Return to the Music Industry"
The artist’s last full-length effort dates back to 2016’s ‘Glory.’
Britney Spears took to social media to confirm that she is currently not working on a new album and will “never return to the music industry.”
The artist clarified the rumors claiming that she is enlisting Charli XCX and Julia Michaels to write for her upcoming album, which was supposedly “only starting to take shape” now. “They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry !!!” she wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the Renaissance painting Salome Bearing the Head of St. John the Baptist. “When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people !!!”
Spears further described herself as a “ghostwriter,” and noted that she prefers being one. “For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me … I’ve written over 20 songs for other people the past two years !!! I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way !!!”
The 42-year-old’s last full-length effort was 2016’s Glory, which went on to debut at No. 3.
