G Herbo Pleas Guilty To Wire Fraud, Potentially Faces Years in Prison
Accused alongside five others of committing identity theft to rack up $1.5M USD in charges.
G Herbo will potentially face a lengthy prison sentence after agreeing to enter a guilty plea in a wire fraud case in Massachusetts. The Chicago rapper, whose real name is Herbert Wright III, appeared in court on Wednesday for a separate gun charge, where prosecutors also filed the wire fraud deal, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The wire fraud case stems back to a 14-count indictment filed in December 2020. Prosecutors said that over a period of a few years, Herbo and five others were accused of committing identity theft in order to rack up $1,500,000 USD in charges for a Jamaican villa vacation, private jets, a private chef and even “designer puppies.”
An additional charge was added in 2021, referencing an incident that took place in 2018 where Herbo stands accused of lying to federal agents about his association with promoter Antonio “T-Glo” Strong, the alleged mastermind behind the scheme.
A plea hearing has been “tentatively” scheduled for July 27 in front of federal Judge Mark G. Mastroianni. Wire fraud carries a penalty of up to 20 years. As for Herbo’s sentence, the rapper will “likely face a in the two- to three-year range,” according to the Chicago Tribune.
