Billie Eilish is the latest Barbie to join the squad, bringing her intrinsic introspection to the otherwise lively, highly anticipated film. Eilish revealed she’d be joining the Barbie production in an Instagram post last week, in which she warned listeners: “GET READY TO SOB.” Earlier today, the singer shared her track from the Barbie soundtrack, “What Was I Made For?” alongside a sentimental video that pays homage to some of her most iconic outfits.

Eilish sits down at a vintage-looking desk in the middle of a muted green room, donning a high ponytail, a 1950s-inspired yellow dress and matching yellow earrings and Mary Jane shoes. She takes out her box of Barbie gear as well as a Barbie-sized clothing rack and places them both neatly on the desk in front of her.

As she softly sings the ballad’s lyrics, Eilish begins sifting through a slew of Barbie outfits that at first may appear insignificant – but as she hangs the first few outfits on the rack, viewers notice the clothes are all Barbie-sized versions of storied Eilish fits. Notable outfits include her bright yellow fit from the Bad Guy music video and the Chanel suit she wore to the 2020 Oscars.

“What was I made for?,” Eilish ponders, on the self-produced track – also written by Eilish herself alongside her brother and longtime collaborator, Finneas. “Turns out I’m not real, just something you paid for.” About halfway into the video, wind and rain interrupt Eilish’s peaceful reminiscing session, causing all of her outfits to fall off the table. She struggles to consolidate everything again, placing it all back in the box, and, relieved, walks out of the frame.

“What Was I Made For” brings a more mellow vibe to the energetic, high-BPM soundtrack. Other artists on the soundtrack include Charli XCX, Nicki Minaj and Dua Lipa.

In other music news, Troye Sivan announced the release date for his upcoming album Something To Give Each Other.
