Massproductions is set to launch a new wall-mounted shelving system named Gridlock, which is made entirely from ash wood and is designed to suit a number of spaces.

The design, which marks the brand’s first foray into this product category, was developed after founder Chris Martin noticed a gap in the market for an all-wood shelving system. To him, wall-mounted shelves can be dominating, but they also have the ability to bring architectural detail to an otherwise plain space. But nothing at that moment fulfilled the brief. “I wanted to create a shelving system entirely in wood,” he said. “A friend had asked if I knew of such a system, which made me think that maybe something was missing for shelving customers.”

The team set to work on crafting a design that would be flexible enough to suit a range of homes, ensuring that its size and depth were customizable. In order to bring order to the home, the gridded system was imagined, and sees shelves and side panels lock into place – hence the name, Gridlock. “It looks simple, but it took a few years to complete,” Martin says.

Gridlock will launch during the upcoming 3daysofdesign festival in Copenhagen, which takes place from June 7-9. is available in three different finishes: natural, white, and black-stained ash. In addition to set options, the brand will offer tailored solutions through an online configurator. It will will be availablefor purchase through Massproductions website and selected retailers, with prices beginning from 13,400 SEK (approximately $1,243 USD).

In other design news, Zara Home has enlisted Vincent Van Duysen for a second collaborative collection.
