A trailblazing contemporary artist delivering a vibrant pop wave in the world of art, Jun Makita has taken over Hong Kong’s Gallery Ascend for his first solo show. Titled “Oh, Summer Days,” the exhibition serves to continue Makita’s transportation of viewers into a whimsical realm defined by explosive energy and heartfelt melancholy.

Hailing from Niigata, Japan, and raised in Osaka, Jun Makita developed his artistic journey through a love of all things pop. His visual experience coupled with an ability to captivate audiences with his extraordinary talent and boundless imagination quickly caught the attention of the art world. Aside from earning prestigious awards, Makita was also included in the “GEISAI” exhibition curated by Takashi Murakami.

Transforming Gallery Ascend into a beach-fueled space, Jun Makita’s “Oh, Summer Days” pushes the boundaries of artistic expression inviting viewers into a world where the ordinary becomes extraordinary. Works on display highlight the artist’s painting style marked by bold colors and playful details, that come together for a irresistibly pop aesthetic. Subjects include whimsical characters coupled with elements of nature and nostalgic references with tinges of pop culture.

Take a look at Jun Makita’s “Oh, Summer Days” exhibition at Hong Kong’s Gallery Ascend until June 24 above.
