It’s been confirmed that UK rap star Central Cee has signed a joint venture deal with Columbia Records for two projects.

Cench recently became the first-ever British male rapper to be included in XXL’s 2023 Freshman Class, which was unveiled on Wednesday, marking a major moment in the West London rhymer’s transatlantic breakthrough.

Central Cee’s new deal with Columbia has been led by executive vice president Bu Thiam with Central Cee’s manager, Bello. And while the rapper has has been widely known as a fully-independent artist since his inception into the music game, he has been the object of a heated bidding war in recent weeks.

However, while the official terms of his new deal with Columbia have not been announced Cench will continue to retain ownership of the recordings he has to date.

British rap has struggled for major mainstream success in the U.S., mainly due to its differences in slang and accents. However, content from Cench — such as his impressive LA Leakers freestyle — has resulted in fans touting the 25-year-old as possibly the first British rapper to take his music global.

While we wait for more news on Central Cee’s record deal with Columbia, check out the latest record from Stormzy and Fredo.
