Camille Walala’s Studio Is Straight Out of a Coloring Book
With the help of carpentry workshop, Our Department.
French designer, Camille Walala, is known for her vividly multicolored signature and her new studio is no different.
For her studio, the London-based designer teamed up with the carpentry workshop Our Department to bring her vision to life. Consisting of two rooms and a kitchenette, the entire space is livened with rich shades of cobalt, jade green, sunset orange, turquoise, goldenrod and more. But what catches the eye alongside the bold hues are the geometric patterns and large proportions that extend to melamine-faced medium-density fibreboard (MDF) cabinetry, chunky handles, striking grout, natural wood touches and more.
“We were like, how colorful should we go?” Walala said to Dezeen. “Should we keep it quite simple or should we actually go for it? We designed the Lego House a few years ago, this really colorful house. Especially the kitchen in that space was really quite bold and almost like a cartoon, and we thought we should do something similar in our studio.”
