Daniel Lee's Burberry FW23 Footwear Prints a Big Blue Branded Impression
The Equestrian Knight proves the power of a logo, even when you won’t be able to see it.

Daniel Lee‘s Burberry is well underway, evidenced by the British House’s push of the heritage Equestrian Knight logo that’s dominating the designer’s footwear debut.
Taking to its refreshed Instagram account — where you’ll find plenty of images spotlighting brand ambassadors Stormzy, Skepta, Jodie Comer, Burna Boy, Mary J Blige and Kano — we see Burberry presenting a closer look at the soles of the shoes it debuted during Lee’s inaugural collection.
The show, which took place during London Fashion Week for the Fall/Winter 2023 season, was a U-turn on everything its previous Creative Director, Riccardo Tisci, had done. House checks were not the focus, and even the signature trench coat failed to take the spotlight. Instead, Lee gave us a new direction to awe at, recontextualizing the Christopher Bailey-reintroduced Burberry Equestrian Knight logo from 1909 on a number of items and pushing a medly of new British identities, such as roses, rabbits, anoraks, tartans, technical garments and more.
But it’s the shoes that have stolen the show, for now. In a similar vein to other luxury labels putting the power of color and logo into the spotlight (Tiffany & Co., Christian Louboutin, Hermès), Burberry adds rich blue soles to formal derby shoes before debossing its Equestrian Knight and Burberry Prorsum insignia into the bottoms. It appears again in black but with blue branding, and again outlined on a pair of faux fur-trimmed kitten heels.
Take a look at the styles above, and stay tuned for more information on the FW23 collection’s release.
