Adobe has rolled out its own version of a DALL-E 2-like AI painter. The Firefly-powered tool is called Generative Fill and is available in beta now for Adobe Photoshop.

Adobe bills the feature as empowering users to “turn nothing into something faster than ever.” By feeding Generative Fill simple text prompts, the AI is capable of generating a unique image or applying a given edit within a photo.

For instance, if a user wants a deer to join their forest landscape, Generative Fill can create a photorealistic deer and add it into the environment. Let’s say a landscape photographer wants to change up the look of their sky, the tool can radically alter the weather or lighting, or even throw in a few stars.

“Generative Fill combines the speed and ease of generative AI with the power and precision of Photoshop, empowering customers to bring their visions to life at the speed of their imaginations,” Adobe senior VP of Digital Media Ashley Still said.

Generative Fill is available as a beta for Photoshop beginning today. It’s expected to roll out to the general public later in 2023.

In other tech news, Apple has announced the schedule for the 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference.
